So I have to confess, it's been many many months since my last post. Shame on me! Today I applied for a position that asked for a blog address; clearly I need to be more attentive! So going forward I will update this blog accordingly.

Our next big adventure is just tee minus 19 days and counting...

We are heading first to England, skipping on over to the Emerald Island of Ireland and then wrapping up our adventure in Germany!

Tomorrow, November 4th, could be an historic day! So, please do your part and VOTE! Vote, not simply because it's your civic duty and so many before us gave their lives for the right to do so, but vote because you care about what happens to our country and to those who work so hard to achieve the "American Dream". Be an informed voter and a rational voter and please vote beyond your own emotional and self-interests.....after all, we are ALL Americans and we are in this together! We are not a country of individuals, but rather a collective working towards a common good......life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Don't we ALL deserve these things?

As you may or may not have heard, Chandi has a new addition to the family. It is our pleasure to welcome "Chico Bandito" to our casa! Chico is just a little guy. He's about six weeks old or so and is a chiuaua/ terrier mix with maybe some beagle. Whatever he is, he is definitely fiesty and fearless. He is fitting in very well with the other two kids (a.k.a. Fiona and Jynx). He has already had quite an adventurous week in Chi-town. He already walks on a leash, climbs all of our stairs, sleeps through the night (mostly), and has been to work with Andi. He is totally up for living in the City and rolling with it all. Thanks to Aunt Linda and Nelvin for bringing Mr. Chico into our lives. He is a welcome addition!

It was a glorious weekend in Chicago...not just because the weather was picture perfect, but also because the Chicago Cubs won the NL Championship on Saturday. Hooray!

Chandi, Pam, and Erin (thanks to Andi's killer silent-yet-not-so-silent auction skills) got to go to the game to watch the madness! It was a beautiful 80 degree sunny blue sky afternoon at Wrigley Field. The crowd was hype, the beer was....hmmm, well it was ballpark beer (one step up from piss), picture fun was in full swing, Vince Vaughn led us in song in the 7th inning stretch, and the Cubs clinched the title in a 5-4 victory over St. Louis. (My boyfriend, Mark DeRosa, did a phenomenal job. All of our practicing has paid off!)

Most of the posse (minus me who had to pee and decided to throw a temper tantrum) got to celebrate the victory in the stands with thousands of other devoted Cubs fans and sing the notorious "Go Cubs Go" victory song! The crowd poured out onto Addison and took to the streets of Wrigleyville. We, of course, participated in the celebration at several local watering holes (Murphys, Mullens, and Fat Cat). The election is closing in folks and there is absolutely no reason not to participate!!! While I would love to have the power to make you vote for the person I want to win, I am just not that charming or persuasive. (Although, some of you may disagree on the persuasive part, that is!) The important thing here is that you vote. Although, if a certain set of candidates win, I am seriously looking into relocating to England and working in a pub for the next 4 years. However, that's neither here nor there.....my living choices are not your concern :) What is and should be your concern is making sure you have no excuse on election day not to go to the poll.....and make sure when you do go to the polls you are informed. Ignorant voting is worse than non-voting.....and both are totally unacceptable in this day and age! So, use the plethora of resources that are at your fingertips and inform yourselves about the issues and candidates and then do your duty and GO VOTE!

Life by train time.....

I realize now what it means to not have a car in the city......it means one's schedule is dictated by train and bus schedules! My teaching days are consumed by "what time does the metra run", "which is faster, the #144, #146, or #147 bus?", "when does the PACE pick up at the metra station?" These questions sometime have simple answers, but other times there is just nothing simple about it! Since I work in BFE, the trains only run every hour and the PACE buses have decided not to coordinate with the train arrival times, so they just run whenever.

Is it wrong now that my responses to, "when does class end?", or "will you be available after class?" or "can you hang out on the southside tonight?" or "can you come in for a meeting?" all go something like this, "well, it depends on the shuttle schedule and when the train leaves or stops running......" Nice, huh? I have seriously decided to end class early every Wednesday so I can make the 7:40 train. So sorry students, you are getting cheated out of 20 minutes of learning so I can make it back to the city at a reasonable hour.

What is also awesome about the train, beyond the scheduling nightmare, is the "fun" people you get to meet! No joke...I almost delivered a baby, I did be-friend a crack/ heroine addict for a while, now I'm making friends with the conductors. Good times all around!

I guess I should just make peace with it all.....for now, at least, my days will be run by the #147, the Metra Electric Line, and the #367.

WE'RE BACK!

Hey All,

We are re-launching the blog. We have been totally neglectful over the last year. It's not that we haven't had plenty to share and a handful of adventures, we were just too lazy to blog about it all. So, here's a quick recap about the happenings of the last year........

We bought a new place in Uptown. It began with Erin, Andi, me, Jynx and Jasper. We have since lost two of our roomies, for different reasons, but none-the-less they are no longer with us. We have also gained a "daughter" named Fiona. So as it now stands, it is Chandi, Fiona, and Jynx.
I got a job teaching in a graduate program outside Chicago and have since defended my dissertation. Hooray!
Andi got a job downtown Chicago and no longer has to commute to the stinkin 'burbs. Hooray!

Those are the nuts and bolts.....lots of little things have happened too, but it's too hard to look back and describe those things. So, we shall move forward. From here on out we will keep a weekly blog about our random thoughts, discoveries, adventures, and undertakings. Feel free to comment and share!

Let the Chi-town Fun begin

Hey Everyone,

I think spring has finally sprung in Chicago. It's a glorious time of year...outside patio seating, beer gardens, Cubs games, outdoor concerts, the lake, festivals galore and the list goes on. Beyond all of the fun, warm weather things our little city has to offer this is also a time that friends and family like to visit. Suzanne kicked off our spring list of guests in early April. Enjoy the pictures from her visit!

We are so excited to see Nicki, Kristen, and Beth this Friday and our moms and Aunt Sue on Saturday. We'll post pictures of our adventures soon :)

Enjoy the weather and let's hope Mother Nature isn't messing with us!

Summer Plans

Ok, another summer is upon us. We already have several big things on the calendar, so before things book up please let us know if you have events for us to attend or plans to visit. Between the two of us we will be going to Vegas, Hawaii, Tennessee, St. Louis, and possibly Denver and Austin. Beyond that, there are several Dave shows being considered, so let us know if you're up for one. We also have the annual Memorial weekend canoe outing with the cousins and Labor weekend camping extravaganza. Again, please let us know what else we need to put on the calendar. We're hoping to get in lots of summer fun (i.e. festivals, concerts, Cubs games, etc). Tell us what you want to partake in...the more the merrier!

Chandi-er Update

Hey Everyone, it's been a long, long time since we've done anything with our blog. We apologize! Since our last posting, several things have happened that we would like to share. The biggest news is that Erin moved out of our home and into a new apartment in Evanston with Shannon. Let's wish them luck as they "play house" together. Erin is also back in school working towards a Masters Degree in Education. Let's send more positive wishes to her as she embarks on this new adventure. Andi and I are still plugging away...our jobs are good, our house is coming along (although we have little projects here and there), and our pets are just dandy. (Actually, that's not entirely true...Jynx is an a*shole and Fiona is not a good listener these days. Our patience is definitely being tested....I guess a good trial before kids, huh?) We are looking forward to another spring/ summer in Chicago. Please let us know what's going on with all of you!

So, New Year's day began early...at 7:15 a.m. when Taylor, Andi, and I got up, braved the cold Chicago morning and drove over to the Museum of Science and Industry to get in line for the ticket box opening at 9:30 all in hopes of getting our hands on the few precious tickets left for the Star Wars exhibit. We were the first in line and felt a huge sense of accomplishment when we got tickets for the 4:00 slot. Yiipppeee! That is where the joy ended though...while we enjoyed the Museum the actual Star Wars feature was highly, highly disappointing, right Taylor? I'm not sure what we hoped for, but it wasn't there. I guess we wanted to hang out with the Star Wars peeps...ya know, get autographs, pictures, etc. 'Twas not the case...but at least we had each other and in the end we bring the fun!!!!

Overall, a great New Year's was had by all....more posts will come with our New Year's adventures and pictures. HAPPY 2008!

It's a winter wonderland!

Well, winter has finally arrived in Chicago. The windy city is living up to its name and then some! However, the cold snowy weather did not stop us from having a wonderful holiday weekend. We had two fun filled days of holiday cheer, including shopping on Michigan Avenue, zoo lights., and wrapping presents. While we had to remind ourselves several times what the real reason for the season is, we managed to make it through the experience with smiles on our faces (despite the crowds, rude people, traffic, and soggy feet!)

...how lovely are thine branches. The Sunday after Thanksgiving and on our way back home Chandi-er set up to find their Christmas tree. If you are a loyal blog reader you'll remember the troubles we had last year. Chandi-er purchased a Christmas tree from an urban Christmas tree farm/lot. This year we were determined to have the tree last until Christmas!

There were a few differences this year however that were to some extent going to limit our options. First the car we had to put the tree on was small so we had to keep that in mind as well as having to drive it from Indiana back to Chicago. The first place we stopped was selling tree for only $10! We thought we had hit the jackpot as last year we paid over $70. However our joy was short lived as they were closed. So we got back on the road and pushed on. About an hour later 'er' yelled out that she had spotted a sign for trees. So we turned the car around and headed out into the unknown.

About three miles off the road we ran into a quaint little establishment called Egolf's Christmas Trees Inc.. I have to tell you that they were the friendliest bunch of tree farmers I've ever met; which doesn't do them justice because I don't typically meet a lot of tree farmers. Regardless they were great! They handed us a saw and a cart and pointed us toward the trees.
Well as you can imagine three girls and a saw can't lead to anything but laughter. Just so you, the Chandi-er consumer, can enjoy what we did on Sunday we have posted a short video of the cutting down of the tree. I hope you enjoy it...we did. And the last thing is our finished tree. We can't say enough about how much we love it and how much fun the experience was. I highly recommend to anyone putting up a tree to find your local friendly tree farmer and cut your own. It's a ton of fun!

Turkey Bowl '07

It was that time of year again...time to visit with family and friends to catch up on old times and to get some great deals on Christmas presents; if you were brave enough to face the crowds.
A day when most normal families are sleeping in late and thinking fondly of a big Thanksgiving Day lunch or dinner or both. But not the Haring Family and Friends. We headed to the field!
Not the corn or bean fields surrounding Sweet Aunt D2's and Uncle Glenn's estate...the field being referenced is the south 40... or the Turkey Bowl field.
Some call it the Field of Dreams (mostly the Blackaneers) while others don't have such fond memories. This was the fifth year of that the Haring Turkey Bowl has been played and to date it's Blackaneers 4-1 and Greenskins 1-4.
Andrea did some pretty heavy recruiting this year for the Greenskins picking up four key players. A special thanks to Jason, Jerrod, Jesse and Toby! While the four new additions to the Greenskin roster were key players and came up BIG when called upon the Blackaneers still outplayed the Greenskins; but not by much.
With the game out of the way there was nothing left to do but eat and enjoy one anothers company...so that's what we did. We ate and laughed and ate some more. Then we watched the real games. The Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, and Indianapolis Colts all won there Thanksgiving Day games...and next year the Greenskins will enjoy a Turkey Day VICTORY as well!

Andi's Dream Come True...Almost!

Do you see what I see? Can you believe it? Yes, it is a crazy stripe Vespa! I don't know how they did it, but Gap created a Vespa that captures the essence of Andi. How can she not have this fabulous vehicle? What can we do to make her dreams come true??? Can't you just picture her in one of her many crazy stripe sweaters riding on this with a side car on each side totting me and Fiona (with her doggles on, of course, because once you loose an eye it's gone forever!) Man oh man....how can such a wonderous thing not be enjoyed by it's true owner?

The Crowning of a Princess.....

Introducing Princess Fiona Smarty Pantelones Huerrero (a.k.a. Fiona)!

Breed: Shepherd Mix

Fiona is the newest addition to the Chandi-er household. We are just in love with her, and so is the whole neighborhood! She has more friends than all three of us combined and she loves it! Jynx is thrilled to have a new buddy, but Jasper is still deciding....we hope he will decide in her favor soon!

We are in the process of crate training and potty training Ms. Fiona. She is doing very well in her crate and with the potty-thing, for the most part. If you have any tips or tricks to help us get through the puppy training stage, please feel free to share!

Re-introducing our blog and a few other things....

Ok, we know that we have done a poor job of keeping up our blog. We apologize and are going to try to do better. So, with that said, we are re-introducing The Adventures of Chandi-er.

Since our last posting, lots has happened for us. We have moved, started new jobs, started school and adopted a puppy! Here is the latest information:

We are now proud homeowners. We have a beautiful, vintage condo in the Uptown neighborhood. Our new address is 925 W. Margate Terrace Chicago, IL 60640.
Andi began a new job at Aquent in downtown Chicago. Her new office is located right on Michigan Avenue just north of the river.
Chelsea began a new job at Governors State University in University Park, IL, just south of the city. She is teaching in the Political & Justice Studies program.
Erin has started taking classes. She completed her summer term in August and got all A's. She is now working and taking a class in Developmental Psychology.
We have a new edition to our family. Her name is Princess Fiona Smarty Pantelones Huerrero. She is an adorable shephard mix and is three months old. (Pictures will follow shortly.)

We have all been very busy, but is has been a very good busy. We will continue to keep you posted on things here. More later.........

It finally felt like summer last night as we enjoyed our first Cubs game of the season. The Cubs played the Astros in a make up game and won 2-1, which means the Chandi curse has finally expired! (Long story short, last summer every game we went to, the Cubs lost. We really began to believe that we were somehow jynxing them. However, a new season brings a new string of luck!) So, thanks to Beth & Scott for tickets, Mother Nature for a glorious evening, and the Cubs for a win, Chandi-er got to spend a perfect evening at the ballpark! GO CUBBIES!

What Do Star Wars and Easter Have in Common?

Well let's see....I guess creativity and egg coloring. So, it is the second year that we Harings have taken our egg coloring to a new level. Last year's egg-sellent egg went to Sue for her Mike Wizowski egg. This year cousin Travis set the stage with his brilliant egg-pression of Yoda (featured). Well done Travis, well done! However, we rose to the challenge and created an out of this galaxy supporting cast that included a beautiful Princess Lia, a 3-D hairy Chewy, a dead on RD2D (featured), a freightenly realistic Lord Vader, and (not pictured) a glittery renedition of C3PO and a French-ish looking Storm Trooper. It was quite the year for creativity and memories. Do you guys remember that we did all go see the premire of the original Star Wars together in the late 1970's with Uncle Ed? I believe we took up a whole movie theater row in Monticello!!!! Ah..memories! How great is it that the next generation has accepted the torch and kept the Star Wars spirit alive!!!!

The count down has begun....only a few weeks 'til St. Patty's Day in Chicago. Outside of Boston, Chicago has the biggest and best St. Patrick's celebration in the country. UPDATE: So this year's St.Patty's celebration was pretty low key. We went to the South Side Parade the weekend before, which is insanity and something everyone who lives in Chicago should do at least once! On St. Patty's Day we enjoyed the dying of the river, and city parade, and a small dose of bar fun at Mystic Celt. It was freezing this year though, so the festivities weren't quite as enjoyable. While still a favorite Chicago holiday, this year we swallowed it in moderation.

Meet Herman, our snowman! Herman was born on February 25th, 2007 in the late afternoon. His place of birth was the rooftop of our apartment building. Although Herman's lifespan may be short, he has given a lot! In his little time, he has brought us an afternoon of great joy and laughter! Thanks Herman!

First of all, we are so happy to have Erin home to celebrate her birthday with us!

Second, we had the most fantabulous dinner ever, thanks to Erin's birthday. If you have never heard of or been to Japanois you are missing out. Third, we had a wonderful time celebrating with some of our favorite peeps. Thanks for coming everyone! Cousin John and Susan even hung at the "after party" at Harrigans Pub! Although we may be getting a little old for the college bar scene (some of us older than others), a good time was had by all. Erin got a fee free b-day beverages, which is always a bonus!

Finally, we wrapped it all up on Sunday with "bread day"! At Erin's request, we had bagels for brunch, snacks, deep dish pizza for dinner, birthday cake, and brownies. Could we have eaten any more carbs????

February 14th comes around but once a year...sigh...
Here at Chandi Adventures we've been a bit reminiscent of Valentines gone by...here are just a few of our fondest memories of romantic gestures both small and large. But we still want to be inspired...so share with us something that you have done for love or something that someone did for you in the name of LOVE, LIKE or just CRUSHING! (we love crushes...they are so much fun!) ***It didn't have to happen on Valentine's Day.***

The following happened to us in the name of love:

single rose left on a car windshield in the middle of the night so when she went to her car it would be waiting for her first thing
poem read to them
on the way to a volleyball tournament super early in the morning (think before the sun rises) boyfriend game her a diamond necklace just before she got on the bus
surprise packages in the mail from loved ones
giant teddy bear found in the front seat of my car (it actually was a little scary as I thought someone was in my car)
been taken care of when we were sick

These are a few of the funnest/craziest things we've done for love:

go completely out of our way just to walk by someone we liked in the hopes that they might see us and maybe talk to us (think Jr. high here)
drunk/tipsy dial...this really doesn't need more explanation does it?
flirt with someone else to get the person we really liked jealous...this usually backfires...and you typically end up on a date with someone you don't really like
follow someone around the county...Dave Matthews...did you notice me?!?!
making and sending/giving mixed Cd's
watching hours upon hours of a TV programs/sporting events that we don't even like
took care of someone when they were sick

After a hectic year, at least for Andi and "E", a much needed vacation came our way. Following Christmas with our fam's, the three of us headed down to sunny, beautiful Florida. (We will not discuss the travel nightmares we went through to get there, but none-the-less we arrived!)

What an amazing escape from life.....seriously, how can anyone who lives here worry about anything (except maybe during hurricane season!) We woke up every morning to bright sunshine and 80 degree weather. Our daily routine consisted of coffee, visiting the crabs off the pier, sunbathing on the beach, searching for washed up jellyfish, lunch, mancala hour with our crabby friends, swimming in the pool, some sort of delicious seafood dinner, mancala hour part deux, and falling asleep to the waves outside.

Does anyone want to just say "to heck with it all" and go live in Florida on the beach?

What an amazing way to start the new year.....relaxed and refreshed!!!!

The Progression of a Chicago Christmas Tree

We know it's been a while, and we are sorry for our long absence. We will try to improve!

With that said, we thought we would share with you our first Christmas tree experience in the Windy City. It was definitely a learning experience :)

So, as you may guess, the first tree is a picture of the great Chicago tree in Daley Plaza. It is stunning! The second picture is our Christmas tree that we bought down the street at an urban tree lot for $60. Yes, I said $60. We purchased it mid-December and about 10 days later is looked like the last tree pictured. It literally dropped all of its needles....it sounded like a rainstorm in our apartment each day as branches and branches of dead needles fell to the ground unprovoked.

Did you water it, you ask? Of course we did....and it didn't drink!
Why would such a thing happen, you ask? Well, according to several people it must have been cut in September.

Lesson learned: next year we will either cut our own or go fake!!!!

Funny update: the tress carcus is still sitting in our ally waiting to be taken to the recyclying place.

So I have to admit that I took this idea from my friend Pete's Website. He has a section called Recently Overheard or at least a few posts every now and again of funny or strange things that he has overheard people saying. I'm not usually one to use an idea that has already been around but what I heard just has to be shared with the Chandi Consumer.

I was in my hometown of West Lafayette, IN and the scene was at bW-3's on the Levee. I was there with a good friend of mine from school, Toby, and a few of his friends watching the football games. As the waitress came around to take orders someone at the table, and the person will remain nameless said..."what kind of sauce would you reccomend that won't make my hemroids flare?"

I have to admit that it took everything in me not to laugh out lound, but since I had just met this person I restrained. Thankfully I have this site to share the story; I hope you all have a good laugh too! A word to the wise when talking about something that you don't want published on the internet...wisper!

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Who can guess what we are? The winner will get a special, limited edition "theadventuresofchandi" Halloween t-shirt. So, let's start the guessing.......

This year's Halloween celebration was a success in many, many ways. First, we all made our own costumes, no pre-made Halloween superstore costumes for us...no sir'ee Bob! We took our imaginations to the fabric store and let our creative juices flow. Andi even busted out the old sewing machine and taught us how to sew. (She's a genius...so many hidden talents!) Our moms should be proud! After many hours of sewing, pinning, re-sewing, cutting, etc. our costumes came together, and best of all, we were one-of-a-kinds!

What next? Well, we headed out to Joe's Bar on Weed Street to a Halloween Party with live music from Then Again. After waiting in line for an hour in the chilly, fall Chicago weather we made it inside. The wait was well worth it! The band was fantabulous and will be remembered for the best enterance...let's just say that Ninjas took over the stage!

The three of us rocked out to old 80's jams and enjoyed a full night of dancing with over 500 of our closest friends. Best costume went to a fury Chewbauka...(I hear they are biased towards Star Wars characters!) We finally made it home at about 4:30 a.m. in tact and ready for bed!

Halloween Help

Chicago v. NYC

This is just one of the many reasons Chicago is so much better than New York City or any other city for that matter! As I travel to other cities, I realize more and more just how much I Heart Chicago! It is a fantabulous city. Here are just some of the reasons why:

No garbage piles on the street!
No stench of rotting garbage on hot summer days / nights!
No rats competing with you for sidewalk space as you stroll down the street, as they try to get to the mounds of garbage!

Again, the garbage factor is just one reason, but in the heat of the summer is a major issue. Feel free to add why you think Chicago IS the best city, beside us living here, of course!

Thank everyone who made Erin's visit so wonderful. Between hanging in Chicago w/ the aunts, chillaxing in Marshall, and celebrating the marriage of Nicany, Erin had a grand 'ole time! So much fun, that she is coming home for good! That's right.......

UPDATE: After a year and a half in Romania and a ton of amazing experiences and friendships, Erin is returning to Chicago to begin the next chapter of her life. She will arrive in Michigan on October 17th to spend some time visiting with the family and then head on over to Chicago to join Chandi. We will introduce the new trio at a later time, but for now let's all join in to welcome Erin home :)

This my dear friends and family are two of the most recent pictures from my annual Texas trip for my one and only nephew's birthday! Marcos Adam Guerrero was born to the proud parents of Nick (my brother) and Michelle on August 5th three years ago! His birthday party this year was at a skating rink/arcade; and while we had a lot of fun, he ended up spending more time on the ground or on my toes than actually skating. We all had a great time and Marcos successfully rang in his third birthday!

This is a big year for Marcos. He started school last Monday. From what I hear he is doing really well. He is getting along with his new classmates and listening to his teachers. While I think his parents are sad that he wasn't a little more broken up about leaving their sides they know he is doing really well and that this is the foundation of a bright future full of fun and exciting adventures!

We heart the Zoo!

It's true.....we heart the Lincoln Park Zoo! How can you not...it's free, it's in the middle of a beautiful city park surrounded by picnicking families, paddle boaters, frolicking dogs, sandy beaches along Lake Michigan, and much more! I mean seriously, where else can you relax with your favorite playful gorilla buddies, roaming giraffes, posing seals, wandering grizzly bears, smelly yet adorable penguins, and lazy lions and lionesses? You can visit all of these friends while at the same time eating a delicious popsicle (or popcorn, cotton candy, peanuts, whatever) and working on your summer tan (or burn, in my case).

As the pictures above show, the gift shop can prove to be as much fun as the zoo itself. Who would have known that one would have the opportunity to kiss a penguin, get licked by a lizard and a seal, play "hear no, see no, speak no evil" with monkeys, or be transformed into an elephant and a tucan? Anything can happen at the zoo.....it's true!

So, if you ever find yourself bored on a regular old Sunday afternoon get out of your pj's and take a trip to the zoo. That's what we do!

Adventure on the high sea...or was that the river?

As many of you know this site is/was dedicated to our Adventures, but many of you may not realize that they were intended to be our CHICAGO adventures. To our suprise and delight we have ended up having many more adventures outside the city limints than in...so with that in mind this past weekend was an AWESOME Chicago weekend and we enjoyed ourselves immensley!

The weekend began early for one Chandi member with a much needed mental health day...so the two day weekend was extended to include Friday. Since we were trying to remain faithful to our "Operation Free Mind II" (more on that in a later blog) we needed to be more creative with our time. Thanks to some good friends who unfortunately were on their 'Farewell to Chicago' tour we went on an exciting and new adventure on Saturday.

Follow this link to the first stop on our weekend adventure. Thanks in part to the awesome weather and dramamine we had a fantastic time! We ended up getting somewhat of a history lesson on our great city. The picutre above is a combination of a few of the better pictures from the trip. If you look closely you will see the base of the new Trump Headquarters located on the old Chicago Sun Times spot...and if you look even closer you can see Bill Rancic, the first Apprentice winner. (If you can find him you win a free, all expensed paid Adventures of Chandi t-shirt)

After the boat ride we walked down Michigan Avenue to a restaurant called Bandera. This was the first time that Chandi had ever been there and I think I can speak for both of us; it will not be our last. It is a chain restaurant but you wouldn't know it, not only was the service exceptional the food was out of this world. In this months Chicago Monthly Bandera was voted as having the city's best Veggie Burger! While we haven't caucussed on this I believe this to be the new restaurant to take out of town guests to. Yeah for you guests!

In conclusion, we would like to higly reccomend both the boat and the restarant as a nice and I must say somewhat grown up Chicago night out!

Operation Free Mind

A Happy 4th of July to All!

So, what would the perfect 4th of July weekend look like for you?

Well, let me tell you since we just had it! It begins with a road trip to the great village of Francesville for some fun with cousins. What kind of fun, you ask.....canoe fun! Yep, we spent a wonderful afternoon on the Tippecanoe River (no, we didn't tip a canoe). I would say we canoed, but I don't think 7 hours of floating three canoes tied together down a river really counts as actual canoeing. To us though, it was canoe-tastic! As always there were a few lessons learned:

Make sure you put sunscreen everywhere, including your knees
When squatting in the woods, check for swarms of mosquitoes and poison ivy plants
Take twice a much food and drink as you think you'll need because a 3 hour trip can easily turn into 7 hours
Local river dwellers are strange folk
Never make plans to party hard after a canoe trip

After making it down the river, we headed back to Chicago to meet up with Tameric who were in town to enjoy the Cubs / White Sox showdown. While not a great series, the Cubs did end it with a win! GO CUBBIES! We enjoyed a chillaxing evening with our peeps and got some good rest to gear up for some Chicago-style 4th of July fun.

Following a fabulous breakfast at our favorite spot, Ann Sathers, we got ready for round two of visitors. Rejuvinated from the previous day's river adventure, Tammy, Jason, Travis, and Shauna came to Chi-town to partake in the annual Taste of Chicago and Grant Park fireworks on the 3rd. As always, the Taste proved to be HOT and JAM PACKED! For some who don't appreciate crowds, it was a bit overwhelming......and i quote, "I would rather eat the roots and bark of that tree than go back in there to try to get some food."

Watching the fireworks caused us to be 99% parched, so we headed to Rush and Division to enjoy a frosty beverage (or two). The frosty beverages hit the spot and inspired us to return to our pad to watch some Dark Crystal! Scary or not? You decide.

With yet another day upon us, we headed to yet another excellent breakfast spot, Wishbone, to enjoy breakfast during a power outage. Equipped with fully bellys we were off to Lincoln Park Zoo for a beautiful day outside. I HEART THE ZOO! Winding down after the departure of the cousins, Chandi regrouped and spent the rest of a wonderful 4th of July weekend on our roof watching the most spectacular 360 degree view of fireworks all over the city! AMAZING!

So, that is our story of the perfect 4th of July weekend. In the hopes of having yet another perfect 4th weekend next year, we invite you all to a fiesta on our rooftop!

So without telling you what 'show' we went to this weekend we thought it best to take a picture and have you guess...the first right answer wins a t-shirt!!! On Saturday Aunts Sue and Peg make the hike to Chicago to join Chelsea and I on our weekend adventure. The show was a hoot! A very interactive experience for the entire crowd and I was pointed out and congradulated on winning the Pulitzer Prize and in the end we ended up being TP'ed! We here at Chandi Adventures give this show the highest marks possible. (Scale to be determined at a later date).

As some of you may know, Chandi, is very into eyes. One holiday we took pictures of everyones eyes, very, very close up much like the picture above. If you have a great eye picture please send it to us...we'll add it to our collection! We heart eyes!

A weekend in Chicago without Mo!

Without Mo

Survival Kit: 1 can of black beans, 6 pack of Corona, 1 pound of Starbucks Fair Trade coffee beans, and a 6 pack of Skinny Cow mint ice cream bars.

These served as my pals during my long 3-day weekend alone in the apartment minus the "andi" to my "Ch". Not to sound completely co-dependent, incapable, or unimaginative, but it was quite a lonely weekend. I have lived alone at several points in my life and over the span of a number of years, so it's not being alone that was the issue. What was the issue was being without someone who is as lively and fun as Andi. There was a noticeable absence while she was gone. While my buddies above are alright, they do not hold a candle to Mo! So, Lafayette or Indy or Francesville you can't have her anymore!

Ok...just kidding....but I wanna come too! Ok...kidding again 'cause that's really pathetic! I guess I am just going to have to buck it up and become a better person!

FYI: I heart black beans!

So, we finally ventured outside of our cozy little hood and over to Rush and Division for a night out. After some good eats at PJ Clarks we headed to The Lodge, known best for its jukebox and chilled atmosphere. The frosty beverages, peanuts and shells everywhere, and open air seating created the ideal atmosphere for a fantabulous Saturday night out!

It seems like we can't go wrong in Chicago. We have yet to be disappointed by any of our adventures. Everywhere we've been thus far has proved to deliver a good time......good company, good food, good drinks, and lots of laughs. We're not the only ones who feel this way either. It seems like everyone we meet and talk to feels the exact same way. There is much love for Chicago. It is one of the, if not the, greatest city!

While a fun filled night was had by all, there are always lessons learned. Here are a few from this weekend:

things always take a little longer than expected, especially when traveling
waitresses don't really enjoy splitting a bill seven ways on seven different credit cards
it is never a smart idea to throw peanuts at police officers or to tell them you have seven unpaid parking tickets
it isn't a good idea to take your shoes off in a dirty, dirty parking garage and walk around
it is not very attractive to yell "goodbye" to a police officer as you fall over
never end a night without water and a few aspirin

Those are a few things we learned this weekend. I am sure there will be more to come, but we can't learn everything in one weekend!

Girls' Night Out

I'm 30....can't you tell? It was quite the celebration....the plan was to have 30 days of festivities, but my tired, old, aching body couldn't handle it! We did, however, manage to have a few weekend adventures to slowly ease me into the next decade. The next few blog entries will chronicle the transition........enjoy!

It all began in Marshall......

So, the kick off celebration began in good old Marshall Michigan in mid-May where a margarita themed party in the pub brought together all of my favorite peeps. All four parts of my family united for the first time ever along with two generations of friends.....huh? Yeah, my friends have kids now so the next generation partied along with us! I think they actually put us to shame as they danced the night away....(which is sad considering they are 2 and 3 years old!)

In trying to keep this blog somewhat clean and family friendly I will only offer a few highlights of the evening. They include:

Rockin out to "Living on a Prayer" in honor of Erin!
Ally-roo telling her parents as she sleeps, "I wanna go back to the club!"
Tami Jo performing a perfect nose dive onto the pub floor and yelling "I'm alright! I'm alright!"
A nameless cousin trying, unsuccessfully, to kick a lantern on the ceiling and landing square on her as*........as none of us were surprised by this nobody moved to help her, except Aquaman (a.k.a. Cousin John!)
Tami Jo serving John in what can only be described as a drunken dance off......John you got served man!
Andrea doing her best impression of Axel Rose....a think a second career could be on the horizon Dre Dre!
Ending the night without getting sick.....and holding hands with a favorite, again unnamed cousin...."I need to feel your fingers!" (Don't take it out of context.....it was totally pure!)

After enjoying a wonderful weekend in Marshall, the celebration moved to Chicago and on to Indiana. My actual b-day was on Thursday, June 1st. I awoke to a phone call from Drew that my first and only nephew was born! What a wonderful present. Brodi Robert Haring joined the world around 10:30 a.m. on my birthday. (Pictures will be posted soon!) What a fantabulous way to wake up........

After a beautiful day of chillaxing with Andi, we got all fancied up and went downtown to see Spamalot. For those of you who don't know what it is, it is the broadway remake of Monty Python and the Holy Grail........hilarious! I highly recommend it.....and I challenge you to all find your grail! I am still on the quest to find mine. (I have a feeling it will be a long, yet interesting quest!) After some great downtown picture fun we ended up at Dunlay's pub downstairs where we proceeded to decorate our faces with various fruit garnishes from our martini's. (See above photos)

A rather tame night ended as we geared up for a weekend road trip.....off to Indy we went! Again, in trying to maintain a family friendly, PG blog all I can say is that Friday night made me realize that we can still party like rock stars in our 30's. Thanks to Andi, Marti, Jacquie, Josh, Katie, and Toby I got to see the sunrise.....haven't done that in a long, long time. Well done if I do say so myself......

Saturday the road trip continued as we went from Lafeyette to Indianapolis to kick off my 3o's with my Dave! A perfect night set the stage for an amazing show.....I recommend that everyone see at least one Dave Matthews Concert in their lifetime. It is well worth it....thanks Dave, thanks Andi for the perfect gift, and thanks Michelle for the great company. Saturday proved that you are never to old to rock out!

I couldn't have asked for a better way to enter my 30's....so thanks everyone! I am excited for this next decade and not at all worried about "growing up" or "adulthood"....it's all simply a state of mind and my state of mind hasn't changed! Like Peter Pan, I will never grow old. So bring on the 30's.....

A day in the garden...

The long holiday weekend served us well. A little rest and relaxation and a whole lotta fun! We went out to see a band, made it to another Cubs game and to the Chicago Botanical Gardens.

The Gardens were more than we could have hoped for. The pictures above do not do it justice. There are more pictures of the gardens as we ourselves didn't look quite like the rockstars we were from the nights before. Breathtaking flowers, wonderful water fountains, and of course fun sculptures for us to pose with. What fun would the day be without crazy picture fun?!?! For a brief while we thought, and hoped for it to thunderstorm so we had some relief from the summer heat, but the thunder and lightning only teased us. We walked the gardens for hours and at one point looked for a place to do "steamroller" into a pond. Thankfully we thought better of it as we figured we would get kicked out or worse yet not get kicked out and drown from craps due to laughter.

While on the walk we suffered from mild dehydration, which came on quickly due to the previous days activities. The dehydration combined with lack of sleep due to our stubbornness to turn on our air led to what I can only describe as deliriousness. At one point Chels told a flower that it was pretty. Which if any of you know me led me to keep talking to that flower...The conversation went somewhat as follows...

"oh flower you are soooo pretty, you are a pretty flower, you are...you know you are a pretty flower, flower...just sit there and be pretty flower...oh you already are." (this needs to be read like the little boy in Dumb & Dumber playing with his dead bird)

Our only suggestions for visiting the gardens on your own would be to make sure you take cash. While the admission is free you do have to pay to park. They do accept pretty much any form of payment except credit/debit cards. We would also suggest not going when it is 99 degrees out with 99% humidity, as you won't look good in photos, no matter what you are wearing! Give serenity a break it can only do so much!!!

Vocabulary Chandi Style

Ok, so we all misspeak. However, we at Chandi's adventures like to turn our vocabulary mistakes into reusable new words. We then take those words and add them into our daily rotation. We would like to share some of these new creations with you all and will continue to do so as they arise. We also encourage you to share your own personal vocab innovations with us.

Here are a few to start with:

Epecially......a version of especially. Example: Do you ever feel like you have cat hair everywhere? Yes, epecially on my face!

Pluking......a spin off of puking. Example: I am not pluking unless I pluke in the toilet.

Uber douch......a very, very dorky person who thinks they are cool. Example: Wow, that dork with the leather bomber jacket and pegged acid washed jeans is an uber douch!

Senale and Sernale.....combination of season and series finale. Example: That was a great senale of ER. Will & Grace's sernale kinda sucked.

Oh the cousins......

What can I say about "the cousins".......we are a wild and crazy bunch who have grown up together and are now in the process of passing the torch to the next generation!

Who are we? Well, there are a ton of us. These pictures only capture a small group of us, but what's amazing is that these photos include representatives of both sides of my cousins! They have united once again, for the first time in twenty years! We've gone from superhero under-roos to ........hmm, actually if we could find some adult size ones we would probably still be in our under roos. So, in that aspect not much has changed. We've all grown up in size, but that's about it! When we are together we revert back to the days of old when we didn't have a care in the world and silliness defined us! I love us and I only hope that the next generation can live up to our greatness :) With that said, let's introduce the next generation of little peeps (and not so little peeps).........let the insanity guide you and never, ever be afraid to unleash the laughter......laugh loud and proud.......and don't be afraid to take it to the next level! We have paved the road.....now you must accept the journey!

Andi's Terrible, Horrible, No good, Very bad Day!

So, not all things about city living are fantabulous. A car...having a car, parking, driving, traffic, etc. is definitely one of the hardships. Andi and I began learning this lesson day one and continue to learn as we go.

Let me start from the beginning and bring you to the final straw....Andi's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.

The day we moved here as we were packing up Andi's first place she got her car towed....OUT OF HER OWN PARKING LOT! Ridiculous....we know!

(Reenactment: "Yeah, did you tow a honda with indiana plates. Ok, well I'm going to need you to bring it back!)

Yeah, they don't do that, so we had to ride in the moving truck with some less than "gentlemen" movers. Long story short...we got the car back.

Next experience......another towing, but his time by the lovely city of Chicago. This time it happened right on our street. Apparently it is important to read the fine print on street signs...just because it says in big letters "Snow Advisory: No parking when there is two or more inches of snow" and it is a nice sunny day that doesn't mean your car won't be towed because somewhere on the sign it also says "or on Thursdays". Whatever! Again...long story short, after two less than fun, long trips to the city lot (which can only be described as a bureaucratic toilet bowl) Andi got her car back again!

After all of the wonderful towing adventures we began parking Andi's car in our "secure" garage in our building. One would think this would solve all of our worries, but nope! After a few weeks in the garage Andi realized that a leak in the ceiling of the garage was staining the hood of her car. The landlords said they would fix it and in the meantime she should park in another spot that wasn't being used. Great! No worries....right? WRONG!

As we pack up to go to Frannyville to celebrate the next generation of crazy cousins, Andi realizes that someone who lives in our building has keyed her car with the words "My Space".

(Reenactment: Oh snap Chelsea....somebody freakin keyed my car. I'll be back. I'm going up there.....I am furious!)

No joke! Not only was she parked in a spot she was told to by the landlords, but somebody who lives among us actually had the nerve to do such an immature thing. Who does that? So, after some angry calls, notes, and some serious shaking....we got on the road to begin our weekend.

The bad car karma should stop there...isn't that enough? You would think. As we are making on way on the skyway we slow to approach the toll. What happens as we do? You guessed it, someone rear ends Andi's car. Yep...it's true! I didn't know at this point who to feel bad for, Andi? or the poor, young boy who hit her and who was going to have to feel her wrath! However, she managed to keep her cool (after screaming in her car and banging her fists a bit!)

So, that about sums up Andi's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day and the long tradition of having a car in Chicago that has lead up to this!!!!!!

Awhile back Chelsea and Andi decided to incorporate their greatness into one entity, thus Chandi was born. With that in mind they, along with some of their fabulous friends thought it best to develope a hobby, if for no other reason than to keep them out of trouble. Cubs "Unite" the otherwise divided...

The last blog posed the question...'can the Cubs unite us'? Well this weekend Chels and I found out that not only can they unite us, but that they can bring together entire conferences and rivalrys to cheer for a common good.

We set out on Saturday to see if we could catch our first game of the season and it didn't look good at first. When we first stepped outside it was already raining, but lucky we both wore hats and brought along an umbrella. The rain would not dampen our spirits. We boarded the blue line to Addison and from there took a bus to Wrigley Field. Once we got there we approached the ticket window and to our suprise they did have tickets available, however they were obstructed view seats. We decided we needed to caucus so we stepped away for a moment. We were at that point approached by few ticket scalpers and almost purchased tickets from them. However since the weather was bad we didn't want to spend alot of money. We decided to get the obstructed view tickets and thought that we would walk around if the seats were really bad. We only paid $20 for the tickets. Well to our suprise we had great seats!!! If you look at the picture of the field above that was taken from our seats. We were on the first base line in section 235 which is covered...so while it was raining we didn't get wet and had a perfect view, no obstrucitons! The Cubs however didn't have such a great day, they suffered their worst lost in over ten years, we hope that that wasn't our fault.

After the game we decided to go get some grub so we headed to the Vine for a bite. After we got some much needed nurishment we headed for the Cubbie Bear. We met a lot of people from all over and while we were all from different places and supported different college sports teams we all have a common love of the Cubs, so we set our differences aside and had a great time! Chels and I had yet another great time and again met a few people from Iowa?!?!? We know there is a connection now we just need to find out what it is!

The pics are just for fun...we took turns with the camera...I got a good one with Chels and the famous Wrigley sign and then Chels got one of me getting back in touch with my gymnastic roots. And if you read this far do me a favor and leave me a message with what number you see at the bottom of the sign...I know that Chels is getting 'older' but come on!!!

Hmmm, can the Cubs unite us?

Andi and my rivalry runs deep and even plays out in our egg coloring activities. She has long been a Purdue fan (Boiler Up!), while my blood bleeds green and white for the MSU Spartans. We have an on-going bet during football season every year and whoever's team looses has to buy the other one their favorite cheesecake. Well, now that we are in Chicago we've realized that our rivalry ends when it comes to the Cubbies. We both love the Cubs. So, we will at least be able to enjoy a summer of together-ness.....but come fall, I would like the pumpkin pecan cheesecake please!

Egg-cellent Coloring Contest, Easter 2006

This year's Easter Festivities were short on kids. So, the adults decided to get creative and put our crafty-ness to the test. After an hour, lots of paint and laughter I must say that I am impressed! Here is a preview of our favorite creations: The first one is Mike Wizowski and his look-a-like egg Mike Wizowski. Pretty good, huh? This egg-cellent work was done by Aunt Sue.
The next egg was thrown together at the last minute. Seriously, the local town judge was on his way over to judge the eggs. Tammy Jo followed her instincts and alas the cutest little piggy egg was born. Finally, Melissa (who is extremely artistic when it comes to coloring eggs) put together a wonderful egg tribute to finding Nemo. Claps all around to my creative and talented family!

Our 1st St. Pat's Day...In Chicago!

Since our time as roomies here in the big city of Chicago we have had few experiences that could measure up to St. Patrick's Day. We kicked off the festivities the weekend of March 11th by going downtown to witness the dying of the Chicago River and the parade. We almost missed both of these traditions because they are the weekend before the actual holiday.

The next Friday, March 17th, was St. Patrick's Day. Suz came into town and I took the day off so we could celebrate properly. While Chels and I cleaned the apartment Suz took on the tough challenge of finding and picking where we were going to celebrate. After the cleaning, we all got ready and I have to say we were looking pretty festive, all decked out in green and wearing our beads, ready for whatever the night had in store...or so we thought! It's a good story but against my better judgment to publish it...

We decided upon a pub in the Wrigleyville area called the Mystic Celt. It sounded Irish and by the line outside when we arrived we knew we were right, this was the place to be. Thankfully the lined moved quickly and we were inside where it was nice and warm within a half hour. Needless to say we enjoyed ourselves tremendously. St. Patrick's Day 2006 was proclaimed successful!

Cows on parade is a thing of the past....now it's time for Chandi on parade, so mooove over Chicago and get ready for US!

This blog will chronicle our adventures as newcomers to the Windy City. Andrea and I are two silly, silly girls and we will have lots to share, so stay posted.

Introduction to our Fabulous Flat

So, here are the first photos of our fabulous Chicago flat. We just love it! The first picture is of our loverly kitchen. It took some time for us to warm up to the idea of actually using our kitchen, but after lots of money spent on eating out and lots of waiting for delivery we decided to give it a go. We have made some wonderful dinners and shall post the recipes soon.

The next photo is of our cozy living area where we do lots of chillaxing in front of the warm fire with our pals: Jasper, Jynx, and Cleopatra. We spend lots of time in here, but we hope that will change once the weather cooperates. Hopefully we will soon be moving our time outside to our balcony and rooftop! Can't wait for warm nights with some tasty Corona and Oberon.
